Dining table with two supports

Using a dining table for work from home

A table used for meals and work needs space for both activities and a practical way to switch between them.

Plan the layout and dimensions

Measure the equipment used during a normal work session, including the screen, keyboard and documents. Check legroom under the tabletop and whether the chair can sit at a useful height. Keep the cable route away from the dining walkway. Compare the table’s care instructions with the wear created by daily equipment and cleaning.

Check everyday use before ordering

Plan where work items go before meals so the table can return to its dining role without a complicated rearrangement. A nearby storage location can be more useful than buying a larger table. For longer work sessions, assess the complete workstation and seating setup rather than assuming a dining chair suits every task. Test both layouts with the chairs occupied before finalising the furniture sizes.
