Close-up of a rug surface and edge

One rug under the bed or smaller rugs at the sides?

Compare bedroom rug layouts by where your feet land, how much floor remains visible and how easily the room can be cleaned.

Plan the layout and dimensions

Draw the full bed frame, not only the mattress, and add the bedside tables. Test a larger rug extending around the bed against separate side rugs. Mark the standing areas used when getting in and out of bed. Check the gap to wardrobes and doors, including any storage mechanism in the bed base.

Check everyday use before ordering

Think about maintenance and how the rug will be moved or cleaned. Smaller rugs can be handled separately, while a large rug connects the bed area visually. Either option needs a suitable, stable placement for the floor type. Compare the actual dimensions available and keep edges out of regular stumbling points. Choose the layout first, then use colour and texture to connect it with the bedding.
