Choosing a rug direction for a long living room
Share
The rug’s direction should support the seating group and the walking route in a long room.
Plan the layout and dimensions
Mark the proposed rug size on the floor and place the sofa and table footprints over it. Compare the long edge parallel to the room with a rotated arrangement. The option that looks balanced on an empty floor may change once furniture covers part of the rug. Check the visible border around the seating group rather than relying on room dimensions alone.
Check everyday use before ordering
Look at how the pattern leads the eye toward doors and windows. A strong directional design may emphasise the room’s length, which can be useful or distracting depending on the layout. Keep a usable route around the furniture and check that the rug does not catch a door. If neither orientation works, compare another size before deciding the colour or pattern is the problem.
