Building a three-colour palette around a sofa
Share
Use the sofa as one fixed colour reference and test a small palette against the room’s existing finishes.
Plan the layout and dimensions
List the elements you will keep: flooring, walls, curtains and major furniture. Choose a main neutral, a supporting colour and a smaller accent, then place fabric and paint samples together in the room. These roles are a planning aid rather than a rule about exact percentages. Compare the samples in daylight and under the lamps you actually use.
Check everyday use before ordering
Repeat the accent in a few separated places, such as cushions and a small decorative object, while leaving visual breathing room. If the sofa already has a strong colour, a calmer rug can make the combination easier to judge. Change one accessory at a time. Photograph the room from the entrance to see whether the palette feels connected beyond a close-up of the sofa.
