Planning storage inside a living room chest or cabinet
Share
Choose a living room storage unit by the objects it needs to hold before deciding how to style its top.
Plan the layout and dimensions
Group the items into categories such as documents, games, cables and serving pieces. Measure the largest objects and compare them with the unit’s internal spaces. Check whether the model uses drawers, doors or open sections; the product name alone may not describe the layout. Include the opening area in the room plan.
Check everyday use before ordering
Keep frequently used items at an accessible level and avoid planning storage that exceeds the manufacturer’s stated load limits. If electronics will sit inside, follow their ventilation requirements and confirm cable access. Arrange the top only after the storage works. A lamp or decorative object should not prevent doors from opening or cover sockets you need every day.
